savute camp
Southern part of the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, in northern Botswana.
Savuti Camp was completely rebuilt in 2007, and has been redesigned to place more emphasis on the spectacular Savute Channel. Savuti Camp is situated about 17 kilometres 'downstream' from the Zibadianja Lagoon - the source of the Channel.
In the dry season the waterhole in front of camp is the only source of water over a large area and therefore offers excellent wildlife viewing. The Savuti Channel has recently filled with water again after 28 years of being a ribbon of grassland and wildlife has had to adapt to a new source of water and all the opportunities and menaces it has brought with it.
The main lodge at Savuti is a large wooden and thatch structure, and has a great viewing deck overlooking the permanent waterhole. Wildlife can often be seen coming down to the waterhole to drink, and there is also a log-pile hide right next to the waterhole, which guests can use at certain times of year. There is a large lounge area with comfortable chairs and sofas, and a small library. Beyond the lounge is a deck, also overlooking the waterhole, with a small shaded swimming pool and sun-loungers. The camp fire is lit in the mornings and evenings. The bar and the dining area which is covered but open-sided, allows great views over the waterhole. Savuti Camp has 220v generator powered electricity.
All seven tents face onto the Savuti Channel, providing privacy and stunning views. Each tent has a deck in the front allowing great views of the camp’s waterhole. These large walk-in tents are lovely, with canvas walls, wooden floors, high ceilings and beautiful thatched roofs. The front walls and entrances of the tents are meshed, which allows for great viewing from within the room. The king-sized beds have mosquito nets and there are ceiling fans. The en-suite bathroomsare large and luxurious. One of the seven tents at Savuti has a 'spare' second tent adjoining to it. Each of these tents has separate bathrooms, and there's an enclosed corridor joining the two – which can be used safely at night. This is used as a family room, or for four adults travelling together.
