A well-established Okavango Delta camp, Shinde is built on a beautiful lush palm island on the edge of the Shinde Lagoon. Shinde has all year round water making it a great base for all water activities on offer being Mokoro and boat trips. Surrounded by open plains, the camp provides good sighting for elephants and wild dogs.
Nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, Shinde is an intimate, classic camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon, which simply teems with animal and birdlife. Shinde’s accommodation and main areas received a full refurbishment in 2015.
The elegance and historical charm of the iconic Shinde camp has been enhanced by enlarging the eight classic safari guest tents to incorporate a spacious bathroom with a large walk in shower and luxurious fittings. The larger bedroom with new linen and furniture in tasteful colours provide the perfect retreat. Wide sliding doors leading onto the extended front decks afford breath-taking views over the open floodplains or the mysterious waterways of the Delta.
Eight enlarged twin bedded classic safari tents are offered and all include a spacious en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, large walk in showers and flush toilets. Since the refurbishment all tents have been fitted with new linen, mosquito netting and furniture in tasteful colours for a perfect relaxed retreat. Generated electricity and a private viewing deck are part of each tent. The tents have been thoughtfully positioned to offer breath-taking views across the Okavango's waterways and open grasslands.
A unique feature of Shinde is its private-use camp called The Enclave at Shinde. Also refurbished in 2015, the three separate tents with all amenities and activities are available for exclusive use. Guests may reserve the Enclave for private use. Included are a private boma, private bar, dining area and lounge overlooking the lagoon. A personal waiter/barman is specifically assigned to this facility. A senior guide hosts guests and will escort them on private game activities.
As Shinde is located in an ideal location for water and land activities, there is a diverse range of activities. Powerboat and Mokoro excursions provide a chance to experience the bird, plant and reptile species found in the aquatic habitat of the Delta. Game drives are conducted in specially designed vehicles together with a personal guide and guided walks are also available for the more adventurous. Shinde offers fishing on a catch and release basis for a variety of species such as Tilapia and tiger fish.
Shinde accepts children of 10 years and older. Shinde Enclave accepts children of 7 years and older.
