The Five Suites eco-Camp, Sanctuary Baines’ Camp is the perfect combination of luxury, privacy and nature. This exclusive lodge is named after the famed nineteenth century explorer and artist, Thomas Baines. Baines’ Camp, situated on a private concession in the Okavango Delta, is superb for game viewing and bird watching. The area is home to a wide variety of big game including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog.
The main area features an oversize deck for outdoor dining and views over the permanent water of the lagoon. There is also a small infinity pool, perfect for cooling off in the heat of the day, comfortable sunbeds and two shady salas for relaxing under. Electricity, 240 volts, is supplied by a combination of silent packed generator and battery system allowing 24-hour power supply.
The elevated suites feature a spacious bedroom, with softly draped fabrics adding the romantic touch of a bygone era. The four-poster beds are fully mobile and for a magical night-time experience, can be rolled onto the private deck overlooking the shimmering waters of the Boro River. Avid astronomers will delight in stargazing from the privacy of their own deck.
Guests may explore the area by land and water. Daily morning and evening game-drives offer adventure into the wilds of the Okavango Delta and night drives are unique for discovering nocturnal species. During High water levels, game drives are combined with motorized boat excursions.
The water paradise of the camp can be experienced at the gentle pace of a poled mokoro, or faster in a comfortable shaded motorboat (subject to water levels). Walking safaris are a specialty at Baines, with skilled, armed guides introducing the small things which make up the complex ecology of the area - the local plant-life, insects, birds and smaller animals.
The unique and educational elephant interaction, offered at Stanley’s Camp is also available to guests at Baines’ Camp. This activity encompasses a leisurely paced walk with a trio of semi-habituated elephants. Guests can observe and interact with them and enjoy a picnic lunch in their company.
