General description:
Tau Pan Camp, opened on the 01 March 2009, has been designed to blend in with and compliment the surrounding environment of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the largest game reserve in the world (52,800 sq km’s) and for many years was closed to the public, hence it is known for being one of Africa’s last true wilderness areas. This is a place to experience solitude and to feel dwarfed by the expansive landscape that surrounds the camp.
Facilities:
Tau Pan Camp is situated on the edge of Tau Pan, one of the most beautiful and wildlife rich areas of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The main area contains a viewing deck, lounge, dining area, library, curio shop and pool. The rooms and the main area are connected by sand path walkways. Tau Pan Camp is solar- powered with a generator back-up.
Accommodation:
Tau Pan Camp is situated on a sand ridge overlooking a permanent water hole. Tau Pan Camp features eight custom designed chalets (one family chalet   and seven twin chalets) that are thatched with insulated walls to stay cool in the heat and warm in the cold. All rooms have ceiling fans, outside showers and private viewing decks.
Game viewing and activities:
Game drives are offered in the early morning and late afternoon, and guests can also enjoy a guided walk with San Bushmen. From November to March the rains fall and during these summer rains the Kalahari transforms as the plains and pans burst with flowers and sweet grass.  Migratory species including zebra and wildebeest return to graze in their thousands. Predators such as lion – especially the famous Kalahari black-maned Lion - Cheetah, Leopard, Jackal, Brown Hyenas and Wild Dogs are also found in the area. During the dry season, May to September, the area retains many resident species that together with the predators congregate close to any surface water and pans. The abundant bird life includes the world heaviest flying bird – the Kori Bustard and the commonly seen Black Korhaan. Ostrich are seen roaming free – usually in large flocks. Tau Pan Camp is in a national park and an ecological sensitive area and for this reason there is no driving off road or at night.
Children Policy:
Children 6 - 12 years permitted provided they are on a private vehicle. Children younger than 6 years old are permitted, provided the camp is booked as exclusive use
