General description:
The luxurious Kings Pool Camp overlooks the Linyanti River and the oxbow-shaped Kings Pool Lagoon. Named after a Scandinavian monarch who camped on the banks of the lagoon, Kings Pool Camp is most famous for its large elephant population, but is also home to a great variety of other game. Regular sightings at Kings Pool include sable, waterbuck, buffalo, lion, leopard and wild dog.
Facilities:
The main lodge is a large wood-and-thatch structure and boasts a large viewing deck overlooking the hippo filled oxbow lagoon. Elephants can often be seen crossing here.
The lounge area is filled with plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas and a library. A small gym, bar and curio shop complete the facilities.
The dining area is covered but open-sided, allowing views over the water. The lodge is stylishly decorated with traditional Botswana basketwork and other local artifacts. An open-air boma is ideal for dining under the stars. On the edge of camp there is a swimming pool and a hide for game viewing.
Kings Pool Camp has 220v generator powered electricity.
Accommodation:
Kings Pool Camp boasts nine luxurious tented rooms with thatched roof bathrooms. The rooms are built on raised saligna decks and located on the edge of a high river bank. Inside the rooms are enormous with high ceilings and each side of the tent has a large deck – on one side there is a plunge pool and sala (small pavilion) and on the other side is the outside shower. The beds are large, double four-poster style and each tent has a sofa, coffee table, armchairs, writing desk, dressing table, wardrobe, fan and safe.
The tents all have private, tiled bathrooms with a double shower, toilet and double handbasin, as well as a separate outdoor shower. All have balconies overlooking Kings Pool Lagoon and guests will regularly see elephants drinking on the river bank below the tents.
Each safari tent is connected to the main area by a raised wooden walkway.
Game viewing and activities:
Game drives concentrate on the riverine forest areas beside the water and, when dry, the wide grassy floodplains. Walking safaris are also possible during the summer months when the elephant densities are not as high.
There are good populations of Impala, Lechwe, Kudu, Zebra, Giraffe, Sable, Waterbuck, Buffalo and the smaller plains antelope. The major predators such as Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Wild Dog and Hyena are regularly sighted. The reed and papyrus swamps are ideal for numerous species of birds such as Fish Eagle, waterfowl, cranes, storks, plovers and herons and are a magnet for game in the dry winter months.
Kings Pool Camp has two hides - one located at the western end of the camp where guests can spend siesta time watching the game come down to drink. The other hide is an underground hide where the water is at eye-level to guests. Guests can see elephant feet and trunks almost within touching distance, but be totally safe inside.
