General description:
Khwai River Lodge is set under a canopy of indigenous Leadwood and Fig trees and offers a commanding view of the Khwai River flood plain.
Khwai is a year round destination for wildlife and predators can regularly be seen in this area. It is not unusual to see many different species of wildlife from the luxury of the own private deck. Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dogs are regularly seen. Birdlife can also be viewed in abundance with exceptional sightings of wildfowl and raptors near the lodge.
Facilities:
Khwai River Lodge boasts a hide overlooking the Khwai floodplains, a heated swimming pool as well as a gym and spa facility. Guests wishing to stay in the tranquility of the camp can relax in the hide, or make use of the gym and spa facilities. Guests can enjoy indulgent treatments at the spa or in the privacy of their own tent. A cosy fireplace, fully stocked bar and air conditioned library with 24 hour internet access, VHS and monitor multisystem equipment, slide projector and screen are offered at the lodge. Guests dine in the comfort of a covered dining room offering delicious cuisine at all hours. A covered lounge area and bar are also available, where guests can relax after a day out in African bush. After dinner, guests can keep warm around a campfire under the African night sky.
Khwai River Lodge has continuous 220V AC power.
Accommodation:
All fourteen luxury tents are housed on raised wooden platforms, offering great views, and shaded by a traditional African thatch roof. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for viewing wildlife, or for enjoying a private dinner. The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with en suite bathroom, private fully stocked mini bar, four poster bed complete with mosquito netting, as well as discreet air conditioning.
The private suite at Khwai River Lodge offers the ultimate in exclusive safari accommodation complete with a private plunge pool and his and hers outdoor showers. An outside bathroom, large deck area for private dining and a personal guide for private game viewing excursions are special extras provided for guests in the private suite.
Game viewing and activities:
Activities at Khwai include morning and afternoon game drives in open Land Cruisers. Night spotlight game drives and star gazing presentations are also conducted after dinner.
Khwai River Lodge is set on the banks of the Khwai River which during the dry months of the year is the only source of permanent water in the whole area. This area is most famous for its raptor populations – Martial Eagles, Secretary Birds, Bateleurs and a whole host of little Raptors comprise the main feature of this area. There are amazing water birds to be found along the Khwai River and as this river is fairly open, it makes for easy birding.
A cultural visit to a local village can also be arranged from the lodge, as well as guided safari walks along the Khwai River by one of the experienced team of guides.
Children Policy:
Khwai River Lodge welcomes children of 8 years and older. It is, however, a camp requirement that children aged between 8 – 12 years are advised to share accommodation with an adult and take private game activities.
Why we like it:
Excellent game sightings of large concentrations of mammals
Intimate dinners on private decks provide the perfect romantic experience
The private suite at Khwai River Lodge is ideal for honeymooners
Walking safaris along the Khwai River offer excellent birding
Game viewing from the hide
