General description:
Kanana (Setswana for 'paradise,') is centrally situated on a private concession in the Okavango Delta. This area is home to a diversity of species, including many migratory bird species. Remote and beautiful, Kanana offers a great variety of land and water activities in the spectacular Okavango Delta. Dependent on the annual floods, the level of water transforms this dry camp into a true water experience. In the early months of the year guests may actually enjoy the visible spectacle of the water rising around the camp.
Facilities:
The common facilities of Kanana are built up on stilts overlooking the Delta floodplains. The dining and lounge areas are on raised decking built around a massive and ancient fig tree. The camp also has a well stocked bar, a swimming pool and a gift gallery.
At Kanana, electricity is generated to allow the operation of lighting and other basic facilities in camp. Re-charging of camera/video batteries is possible, arranged by the camp managers, provided guests bring the appropriate adaptors along to suit Botswana 220V power source. An international multi adaptor is recommended. The electricity system does not support the use of hair dryers.
Accommodation:
The eight spacious, twin-bedded safari ‘Meru’ style tents, accommodating up to 16 guests, are set on raised teak decks, offering breathtaking views across the waterways. All tents offer en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet. The tents are well spaced to afford privacy, but are still within comfortable distance from the central areas.
Game viewing and activities:
Situated in a private concession, a wide variety of activities are available at Kanana. Game activities include game drives conducted in open game-viewing vehicles, mokoro trips, power boating, sunset cruises and game walks. Game drives occur in the morning and late afternoon, into the evening on night drives. Explore the pristine waterways by mokoro or powerboats, and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity from July through to the summer months, a true highlight for birders and non birders alike. Guided walks are highly recommended and fly or spin fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharp tooth catfish are available from the lodge.
Children Policy:
Minimum age is 7 years from March to June and in November and December. From July to October, the minimum age is 10 years.
