General description:
Situated on the island of Xaxaba and surrounded by Illala Palms, Eagle Island Camp overlooks a lagoon fed by the tranquil waterways of the Okavango Delta. This area offers high quality wildlife viewing with prolific birdlife and mammal sightings. Well known at the Eagle Island Camp is the romantic Fish Eagle Bar, where guests can enjoy a drink or dinner while enjoying a spectacular sunset over the African wilderness.
Facilities:
There are a variety of dining options available to guests at Eagle Island Camp. These include relaxing and dining under African skies in the open-air dining, bar and lounge areas. An off-site bush venue is often the location for exciting bush dinners.
Spectacular African sunsets can be enjoyed from the deck at the lodge or in the well-stocked Fish Eagle Bar overlooking the Delta. Later on in the evening, guests may enjoy relaxing in the warmth of the campfire and its surrounding seating area. A crystal clear heated swimming pool is located next to the lagoon. An air-conditioned reference library with books, videos and audio-visual facilities is available for guests.
A curio shop with safari wear, toiletries, video and 35 mm film, facilities for recharging video batteries and local crafts is situated in the general building.
Limited conference facilities with slide projector and screen are available at Eagle Island Camp.
Eagle Island Camp has continuous 220V AC power.
Accommodation:
All luxury tents at Eagle Island Camp are housed on raised wooden platforms and are shaded by a traditional African thatch roof. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for viewing wildlife. Views from the wooden decks are superb. The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with an en-suite bathroom, fully stocked mini bar and a four poster bed complete with mosquito netting, as well as discreet air conditioning. In-room safes are provided for the safekeeping of all cash and travel documents. Each tent is also equipped with an internal telephone to reception and to other tents.
A stunning private suite with a spacious secluded deck area, set away from the other tents in the camp, is available at Eagle Island Camp. The extended viewing deck has two relaxing sun loungers and to the side, a generous heated splash pool which is set amongst the trees for shade and privacy. The open air double showers and beautiful deep copper-framed Victorian bath, with only the tree canopy as a roof, offers opportunities for game viewing from the luxury of the suite. Guests enjoying the luxurious private suite will have the opportunity to enjoy game-viewing on their own exclusive vehicle with their own personal guide.
Game viewing and activities:
During the months of April through October, Eagle Island Camp offers a choice of game viewing by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), motorized boats and sundowner barges to the surrounding lagoons. When water levels are low (December through March), morning, afternoon and evening game drives are offered in open 4x4 vehicles. Guided safari walks are offered all year around on the surrounding islands. An inclusive helicopter game viewing flight of 45 minutes is offered to all guests as part of their safari program.
Eagle Island offers the opportunity of a fully escorted fishing excursion along the Boro channel, one of the main tributaries that feed the Okavango Delta. The main fish species is Tilapia, commonly known as bream in Botswana. Fresh water pike and cat fish are also common in the Delta. Basic rods and reels are available in camp. Please note Eagle Island practices fishing strictly on a ‘catch and release’ basis.
Children Policy:
Children of 8 years and older are welcome at Eagle Island Camp. It is, however, a camp requirement that children aged between 8 – 12 years are advised to share accommodation with an adult and take private game activities.
