General description:
The name 'Duma Tau' means “roar of the lion” in Setswana, and there are great opportunities for seeing lion at Duma Tau, as well as massive elephant concentrations and outstanding wildlife in general.
As Duma Tau is situated close to the source of the Savute Channel on one of the many lagoons within the Linyanti Swamp system, game drives along the Savute are a highlight of a stay at Duma Tau.
Facilities:
Duma Tau Camp lies under a shady grove of mangosteen trees, raised off the ground to overlook a large hippo-filled lagoon. The main lodge, linked to the rooms by winding boardwalks, has open sides for 360 degree views of the lagoon and landscape surrounds. The dining room, pub and lounge are all raised to make the most of the stunning vistas. The swimming pool is a popular spot in the heat of the day. A well stocked curio shop offers local basketwork made by the local staff. The campfire is a perfect place to enjoy the stars and re-live the day’s events with fellow guests.
Duma Tau Camp has 220v generator powered electricity.
Accommodation:
Duma Tau has ten large, walk-in tents standing on wooden decks, each with thatched roof, en-suite facilities and a separate outdoor shower. The canvas walls allow guests to enjoy the night sounds of Africa from the comfort and safety of their beds. The bathroom facilities are en-suite, with hot and cold water and the additional outdoor shower is a wonderful feature for guests wanting to get even closer to nature. Each tent is equipped with mosquito nets, fans and a safe. One tent is suitable for a family sharing or four guests traveling together.
Game viewing and activities:
Linyanti Wildlife Reserve has the habitat diversity to make it a haven for wildlife, and is well-known for its elephant concentrations as they congregate along the waterways and lagoons during the dry winter months. General wildlife viewing is excellent year round including impala, wildebeest, red lechwe, Burchell's zebra, giraffe, Cape buffalo, chacma baboon, vervet monkey and warthog. Predator sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyena are good.
Wildlife viewing is the primary activity at Duma Tau, either on day and night game drives, on walking safaris or on boat safaris (water levels permitting). Nature walks along the Linyanti River and Savute Channel are possible, while the camp's boat takes guests along the waters of the Linyanti, where hippo and waterfowl abound. There are also a number of platforms and hides from which to view and photograph animals and birds. One of the best hides is right at the source of the Savute and many species of game and birdlife can usually be seen from this hide.
