Day: 1
On arrival in Maun and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met by a The Booking Company, representative and transferred to a waiting light aircraft for an air transfer to Jack’s Camp.
Jacks Camp is pitched on a low grassland knoll amongst an oasis of dignified desert palms and Kalahari acacia. Ten stylish canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers have been fashioned in classical 1940’s style.
After a delicious tea, drive into the grasslands to watch the sun set and listen to an explanation of how the Makgadikgadi pans, the remnants of the world’s largest ever super lake, were formed.
A superb dinner is served on your return.

Day: 2
This morning you will visit some of the Kalahari’s Meerkats. Observing Meerkats is a wonderful experience. Meerkats live in communities and depend on one another for survival. Meerkats are extremely social animals. They love grooming one another, wrestling and playing with one other. In the absence of a termite mound or tree, these Meerkats might use your head as a sentry lookout post. By spending quality time with these superbly adapted animals, you will be able to see how they interact with each other and their environment.
After a picnic breakfast, you will visit a remote cattle-post to learn about the traditional culture of the Batswana people. Close by is the famous Chapman’s Baobab which is said to be the third largest tree in Africa. This area was also the campsite of early explorers like Livingstone and Selous when they visited the area. Return to camp for a rest and refreshing lunch.
After tea, travel down to the pans where you will be given a brief safety talk before riding your quad bike across the pans. Watch the sun set over this amazing landscape and then star-gaze at the magnificent night skies.

Day:   3
This morning you will walk along the edge of the extinct lake shore to find some of the many stone tools and fossils that litter the pan surface and learn of the origins of early man. Some archaeological finds including stone tools and hunting weapons dating as far back as 300,000 years have been found here. A visit to the Makgadikgadi Pans is essential for anyone interested in the evolution of the country, the origins and explanations of the Okavango Delta. There are many prehistoric sites and fossil lakes in the area. Return to camp for a tasty brunch.

After afternoon tea, head off to see one of Africa’s rarest carnivores – the brown hyaena. Due to a PhD research programme at Jacks Camp, the cubs are habituated and allow you to observe their social behaviour without disturbance. Back to the camp for dinner by candlelight.

Day: 4
Spend the morning walking with Zu/’hoasi Bushmen trackers. A small group of these extraordinary men will guide you on a morning’s walking safari.
They will teach you how they have survived in these harsh environments, using their vast and ancient knowledge of plants, animal behaviour and survival skills.
Return to Camp for lunch.
Spend the afternoon at leisure – there are many activities to choose from or you might just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful camp and scenery.
In the wet season, the Makgadikgadi Pans fill with water which attracts huge flocks of Flamingos and other wading birds – which is a bird lover’s paradise.

Day: 5
Bid the Kalahari farewell and drive by vehicle to the airstrip to meet up with your light aircraft transfer for your onward journey.
